ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION POLICY CLARIFICATION

Although this information is included in the handbook online and available for any student or parent to read, we did feel since this was a clarification in policy and expectations of the school, it would be helpful to take another step in communicating this to parents and athletes. 

These are the expectations in regards to attendance and participation in athletics as set down by the Board of Education of St. Mary's Schools.

School attendance requirement to participate in an extra-curricular activity: On the day of an extra-curricular activity, students must be checked into school by 11:00 a.m. and attend the remainder of the day to attend practice. A student should be present for the entire day in order to participate in a competition. Exceptions may be made for verified appointments or family emergencies.

Verification of an appointment can simply be a copy of the checkout sheet from the doctors office, or a note written by the office staff. These can simply be given to the high school office staff when the student checks back into school. The office staff along with the athletic director will communicate any in-eligible athletes directly to the coaches. 

Our goals with this policy (which is similar to that present in other schools) are to encourage attendance at school and protect athletes and teams from illness. While homework can be made up, the interaction and explanation that occurs in the classroom cannot be replaced. Also, especially in respect to competition: if an athlete is not feeling well enough to come to school right away, odds are they take a risk of making themselves (or their team) more ill if they try to compete while sick. If an athlete is truly ill or has an appointment this policy is not a true hindrance. Of course exceptions will be made for sudden family emergencies (deaths, births, accidents, etc.). These exemptions are provided with administrative discretion.

Members will take photos, design posts, and create fun reels to highlight our school’s events, activities, and everyday life. It’s a great way to build digital skills, work as a team, and make our online presence shine. Open to all high schoolers.

Luxembourg Club

The Luxembourg Club is exclusive to high school students and is a way for us to branch out and learn about another culture, from which many of the students have lineage. 

We meet monthly to zoom call with students in the same grades in Luxembourg, This is a fairly new club that began in 2024-25 and we have some new fun and exciting plans for this year!

2023-2024 Competitive Speech Calendar

Activity Club coordinates parent volunteers for concession stand, gate, and various fundraisers throughout the year, such as Oscar Cash Breakfast, Fish Supper, Soup Supper, and Turkey Supper. Proceeds from these activities help fund student field trips, travel, and other school-related expenses.

The RSM Activity Board would like to thank each of you for the countless hours you have volunteered to help us provide high-quality and successful activities for our children at RSM. The Activity Board provides funding for a number of activities, as well as funding travel expenses related to those activities and field trips for all students at RSM. Without your help the Activity Board would be unable to support these efforts and we want to ensure this level of support can continue. As most of you are aware, a majority of our funds are supported through concessions, gate fees, and fundraisers (2 breakfasts, soup supper, turkey supper, and fish supper). These events would not be successful without the help of the parents/guardians in our school system. -St. Mary's Activity Board
 

WORK ASSIGNMENTS

We will continue to use Sign Up Genius to allow members to choose their work assignments.

Families will be sent a link to view all of the open shifts and sign-up for the shifts they would like to work. Parents/guardians will be notified in advance when the sign-up will be available and when it will be closed, in addition to how many shifts they need to sign-up for. 

After the sign-up is closed, any parent/guardian who did not sign-up for the minimum number of shifts necessary will be assigned to the open slots still available, much like they were assigned in the past. 

By moving to this online platform, it allows our parents/guardians more control in deciding which shifts they would like to work during the seasons their children participate. In addition, the system will provide reminder emails to parents/guardians prior to their scheduled shift.

Our hope is that through these changes we can give our families more options and a voice in when they are being asked to work in order to support our programs at RSM. Our main goal is to provide high quality activities for our children to participate in and this is only possible with the help and support of all families at RSM.
